Supportive Services Overview

Fair Tide adopted the national best practice of Housing First in 2018 for households to develop a sustainable pathway out of poverty. However, Housing First does not mean “housing only”. Residents in Fair Tide’s housing programs benefit from one-on-one case management, along with a host of supportive services. The majority of our supportive services are available to community members not in Fair Tide specific housing and who need a hand up to prevent falling into homelessness.

Case Management

Working one-on-one with clients, our case managers provide connections to appropriate resources and assists individuals in achieving goals such as furthering their education, obtaining and maintaining employment, budgeting and financial management, stabilizing mental and physical health, and most importantly, remaining stably housed. On average, Fair Tide’s case management services have a 90 percent success rate in helping households sustain their housing for at least one year.

General Assistance

Fair Tide’s service portfolio expanded in 2024 as we assumed the role of General Assistance Administrator for both the Town of Kittery and the Town of Eliot. General Assistance is a locally administered, statewide resource designed to assist eligible residents with basic necessities. By taking this out of the hands of the town, Fair Tide can provide a client-friendly and holistic process for individuals accessing this critical resource, aiding in stabilization and reducing the chances that a household will experience homelessness. This work is taken on by Fair Tide’s case managers.

Information and Referral Services

Fair Tide provides information, referrals and short-term guidance to individuals and families seeking assistance in meeting basic needs. This support serves as homelessness prevention and, through resource navigation, can get folks pointed in the right direction.

Client Emergency Fund

Our client emergency fund was established in 2020 during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic when the sheer number of households living one paycheck away from homelessness was revealed. Today, this financial instability still exists for a growing number of households and this fund is an immediate resource for keeping families and individuals in their homes by providing flexible funds to stay up-to-date on their bills.
